14 Jan “Safety is Never Convenient”
After the recent tragedy in Connecticut, we have had a few inquiries form longtime volunteers on our safety and security procedures here at Hilltop. We want to reassure you that Hilltop programs are operating all times with safety as our top priority. That being said, everyone can use a little “refresher” now and then just to make sure we are all on the same page.
All Full and Part-time Staff, Work Study Students, Interns, and Hilltop House Front Desk & Classroom Volunteers must attend our policy and procedures “refresher.” This is just to reassure everyone that we are indeed doing everything within our power to ensure their safety and the safety of our children.
A separate meeting will be scheduled for parents at a later date.
The training is on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 6:30-7:30 PM for anyone who works directly with our children. Staff will be expected to be there. Any volunteer who cannot attend must schedule a “sit down” meeting with Michelle. It is very important that we all know what to do in case of any emergency.
Our Guest Speaker is Pat Swanson, the Director of School Safety for Valparaiso Police Department. Pat has overseen the writing and implementation of the Valparaiso Community Schools Safety Plans. Pat is a longtime supporter of Hilltop. We are honored to have her come in and answer questions about “best practices” on our policy and procedure.
